Choral Conductor

In his choral conducting, Michael works to build ensembles that, regardless of skill level, rigorously support the development of each individual's voice on the basis of solid breath support, unified vowels, consistent institutional practices resulting in a vibrant sound based on a cumulation of healthy voices rather than an artificially enforced unification of sound. His liturgical programming centers around music taken directly from the texts of the liturgy and set to the best music from the Renaissance to modern commissions. In concert, Michael programs to make full artistic statements by presenting works that craft a narrative for audiences of all levels to appreciate and find meaning and reflection through the interaction between music, visual art, and theological or philosophical concepts.
